May 30: European Citizenship Award

The European Parliament has awarded first prizes in European citizenship. Have been 34 of which 4 corresponded to Spain. Among the 4 winners are Sauquillo Paca. Is an exception since they have made are not targeted to parliamentarians but to institutions and citizens who worked for understanding between peoples and promoting the spirit of citizenship.
The ceremony was at the Circulo de Bellas Arts in Madrid organized by the European Movement and Women in Europe. European Parliament Vice-President of the PSOE, Miguel Angel Martinez, explained the award and the sense of values \u200b\u200bwho want to stand on that prize. He spoke about the strain on the European model for competitiveness needed not drag us into slavery-like models of some Asian countries.
I have had to talk about the work of Paca Sauquillo MPDL and President of the Association of Consumers and Users and former Senator and former MEP. In addition to its work on cooperation in over 20 countries and more than 500 volunteers and their work of defending consumer citizenship I wanted to highlight its momentum the amendment of the Geneva Conventions. Their presence in the conflict in former Yugoslavia led him to fight against the strategy of mass rape of women as a means of humiliation and subjugation of the Bosnian people. More than 5,000 women were after the tragedy. Thanks to his actions as rape is now considered a war crime and are prosecuted by the International Criminal Court.
The conflict in former Yugoslavia we have lived in the 90's on the threshold of Europe. The murderers have been fanatical proponents of ethnic cleansing but professional and educated. We must fight for this not to happen again.
